exam on les revenants

"It is essential for a TV programme to simultaneously target both mass and specialised audiences" Explore this statement with reference to  Les Revenants In this essay, i'm going to explore the statement "It is essential for a TV programme to simultaneously target both mass and specialised audiences." Using the french TV show, Les Revenants i'm going to argue wether or not the show targets a mass audience or a cult/ specialised audience using reference to two different key scenes from the show. I will explore how narrative, mise-en-scene. music and genre relate to the question- weather or not these features of the show are made to specifically target a mass or specialised audience. The statement argues that a TV program can simultaneously target a mass and specialised audience. I believe Les revenants was created to target a specialised audience, as it is a cult show, therefore it targets a cult audience. This is shown through the use of non-die
Do shows have mass audiences anymore? (context for exam) More diverse range of tv shows to choose from (not like in the past where there was only one channel- BBC1) . Channel 4 started in 1982- up until recently, there weren't many channels now there are hundreds, on demand services, streaming sites etc. Streaming uses the internet so it's not the same as broadcasting a show/ movie on the TV- narrowcasting. Les Revenants- targeting British audiences as it has english translations on trailers, posters, promo etc. Stuart Hall's Reception theory- we interact with media texts rather than watch and do nothing: Negotiated reading- audience partly agree with producer's ideologies. Preferred reading- audience fully agree with producer's ideologies. Oppositional reading- audience disagree with producer's ideologies.  Issues with this theory: Preferred reading might not be clear to the audience. They want the audience to react to their ideologies.

Les Revenatns- soundtrack

Glasgow Megasnake- Mogwai Stereotypical rock band- guitarist, drummer, bass player. No lead singer/ frontman- unconventional. Name of band- relates to the Christmas film about a mogwai who transforms from something small and cute to something loud (like their music, goes from quiet to loud). This band created the soundtrack to Les Revenants (Conglomeration/ synergy) . Instrumental rock band (post rock) no lyrics in their music. Closer to the metal genre than the rock genre. Their songs are usually around 20 minutes long- atypical. Physical appearance- boring. no celebrity encoded through the way they dress/ act. own their own record label called rock Mogwai created the soundtrack to Les Revenants: This could appeal to fans of the band to watch the show. It gives Mogwai an international audience (subcultural capital). Both mogwai and Les Revenants share similar ideologies that are different to the norm.  How does the Les Revenants trailer target its target a
